Sarah is a Clinical Psychologist who has a special interest in Autism and ADHD. Sarah was herself diagnosed autistic at the age of 34 following the diagnosis of her then five year old son. Sarah is able to offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and is also experienced in practicing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well as Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). Sarah has experience working therapeutically and in conducting diagnostic assessments with autistic adults as part of an multi-disciplinary team. Alongside offering private one to one therapy Sarah currently works with children and their families in the NHS in the field of neurodiversity.
Each of the therapy models available are adapted for neurodiverse clients. Whether you are autistic or have ADHD, your individual differences will be taken into account and understood in the way therapy is delivered.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy uses strategies including mindfulness techniques to help you to focus on how you can live in a way that is supportive of your own personal values, so that whatever problems you may be facing no longer have control over you.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a very structured form of therapy which addresses your thinking patterns and helps you to reframe your thoughts to think about things differently. There is a focus on how different situations impact on the way that you think and feel about things, and on the behaviour you engage in and how these are all interconnected.
Compassion Focused Therapy focuses on three main systems which shape us: threat, soothe and drive. Sometimes these systems can be out of balance, with threat playing a bigger role than soothe for example. Compassion Focused Therapy aims to address this imbalance so that you are able to use your soothe and drive systems to keep the threat system active, but in check.
